According to legend, in ancient China, the Nian was a man-eating beast from the mountains (in some versions from under the sea), who used to come out every 12 months during the winter to prey on humans. People later realized that the Nian was sensitive to loud noises and color red, so they started to use explosions, fireworks and color red to scare it away. These led to the first New Year celebrations, which literally means the passover of the Nian.

The symbols of the game like the Red Chinese Lantern, the red, green and yellow fire crackers along with the Chinese New year logo supports the theme very well.
